Paire d'épreuves unifaces recto et verso, sur papier fiduciaire grandes marges, sans filigrane. Dans les premières années du XXe siècle, dans le cadre du passage à la polychromie, la Banque de France confie au peintre Luc-Oliver Merson les projets des coupures de 50 F et 100 F polychrome. La maquette du verso du 50 F sera approuvée en 1907 et le recto en 1910. Les gravures exécutées par C. Romagnol sont terminées en 1913 mais le projet est suspendu par la 1ère guerre mondiale. Ce projet sera repris dix ans plus tard en 1924 avec le graveur Deloche, Romagnol étant décédé en 1918.
Cette version de 1913 gravée par Romagnol, comporte au recto la mention «Payables en espèces à vue au porteur». Au verso, le médaillon en bas contient les noms de l’artiste et du graveur «Luc-Olivier Merson Inv. et Del., C. Romagnol Incis». Cette épreuve comporte également la particularité d’avoir les monogrammes « 5F0 » imprimés en diagonale aux 4 coins du recto.
C’est la seconde fois que nous proposons à la vente les épreuves de ce type. Les premières, collées sur carton, comportaient la valeur « 50 » à plat au 4 coins du recto.

In the early years of the 20th century, as part of the transition to polychromy, the Banque de France entrusted the painter Luc-Oliver Merson with the projects for the polychrome 50 F and 100 F notes. The model for the reverse of the 50 F was approved in 1907 and the front in 1910. The engravings executed by C. Romagnol were completed in 1913 but the project was suspended by the First World War. This project was resumed ten years later in 1924 with the engraver Deloche, Romagnol having died in 1918. This 1913 version engraved by Romagnol, bears on the front the words \\\"Payables en espèces à vue au porteur\\\" (Payable in cash at sight to the bearer). On the back, the medallion at the bottom contains the names of the artist and the engraver \\\"Luc-Olivier Merson Inv. and Del., C. Romagnol Incis». This proof also has the particularity of having the monograms “5F0” printed diagonally in the 4 corners of the front. This is the second time that we have offered proofs of this type for sale.
