Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire du Dumbarton Oaks Collection, pl. XVIII, n° 202 provenant de la vente Vinchon du 13 septembre 1951 et du trésor nord-africain, P. Grierson, A Byzantine Hoard from North Africa, NC. 1953, p. 146-148, n° 13. Vue la date d’achat de notre exemplaire, il y a de fortes chances que ce solidus provienne de la même trouvaille.

Heraclius allein
Heraklius war seit der Herrschaft von Maurice-Tibère Präfekt von Afrika. Mit seinem Sohn, ebenfalls Heraklius genannt, lehnte er sich gegen die Tyrannei des Phokas auf. Der Aufstand brach im Sommer 608 aus und schnell kontrollierten die Herakleiden Karthago und Alexandria sowie Zypern. Am 4. Oktober 610 landete Heraklius in Konstantinopel, stürzte Phokas und ließ ihn töten. Die Herrschaft des Heraklius begann schlecht. Die Sassaniden besetzten Kleinasien und insbesondere Jerusalem. Ab 622 nahm Heraklius die Offensive wieder auf und Jerusalem wurde 628 wieder christlich. Heraklius erlangte das wahre Kreuz zurück, Symbol des neuen Solidustypus. In zweiter Ehe heiratete er Martine, seine Nichte. Sie war die Mutter von Heraklonas, geboren im Jahr 626, wurde 630 zum Cäsar ernannt und 638 mit dem Thron verbunden. Nach dem Tod von Heraklius am 11. Januar 641 verschwand Heraklius Konstantin wiederum am 20. April 641. Dies ist der Sohn von Martine, Heraklonas, der den Thron bestieg. Bereits im September musste Heraklonas seinen Neffen Konstans zum Mitkaiser krönen. Er wurde im Oktober abgesetzt, verstümmelt und mit seiner Mutter nach Rhodos verbannt.
